From Dare to Care
LOUISVILLE, KY - Girl Scout Makena Devlin has used her Girl Scout Gold project to make a community appeal for an end to hunger in Kentuckiana.? After a full year of planning and work, Makena created an 8' by 12' mural that increases awareness of the problem of hunger and encourages the community to support Dare to Care Food Bank.
Dare to Care Executive Director, Brian Riendeau, applauded Makena's work and emphasized the importance of its message.? "Hunger has never been this widespread in Kentuckiana in Dare to Care's 40 year history.? We can only continue to address it and create innovative solutions if our community is aware of the problem and committed to solving it.? Makena's remarkable work of art clearly communicates her passion for the issue and does so in a way that makes her passion contagious.? We are proud and honored to be the beneficiary of this special young woman's work."
The mural will first be displayed to the public in Louisville's NuLu neighborhood.? The location will be at the Community Garden adjacent to 720 East Market Street. ?
Dare to Care food Bank is a local nonprofit agency with a mission to lead the community to feed the hungry and conquer the cycle of need.? In the past twelve months, Dare to Care distributed over 13 million meals to nearly 200,000 different people in eight Kentucky and five Indiana counties.? Dare to Care also operates 17 Kids Cafes in neighborhood afterschool locations and Backpack Buddy weekend nutrition programs in 36 Kentuckiana elementary schools.
