Sporting goods retailer Olympia Sports plans to open 25 new stores during its current fiscal year, as part of the southern expansion.
The first store under the expansion will be opened in West Virginia and other outlets in states south of New York, reported Chain Store Age.
Referring to areas south of the Pennsylvania border, Olympia president Ed Manganello told the website that they are excited about the opportunities that exist in the region.
"We are primarily a small market retailer, and our format, our people, and our strategy of bringing top brands to these small markets has gained acceptance in these areas," Manganello added.
Olympia Sports said that a similar pace of expansion is expected for the following fiscal year beginning in October 2012.
The Maine-based retailer offers a broad assortment of national brand merchandise in sports equipment, fitness equipment and apparel, athletic footwear, popular sports/leisure wear and accessories.
