It?s amazing how often God uses the little events in our lives, to bring us across the paths of others in need! Recently I had the opportunity to attend a JAARS day with my dad and brothers, while the rest of the girls in the family went to a baby shower. I was supposed to be at the baby shower, but because of a lingering cough (and because the baby shower was held at the home of the expecting mother!) I decided last minute to go to JAARS day instead.
While exploring the different display tables at the hangar, we met a sweet lady named Pamela, who asked us where we lived, what we did, etc. I began sharing about our baking business, The Sugar Nook (My dad wrote a post about our business over at Raising Entrepreneurs), and how I?m working with my brothers to grow that ? especially now that I am graduated from high-school. As we talked, I found out that her daughter is getting married (next month!)! She shared that she had a special recipe for a Pumpkin Custard pie, that her daughter loves and wants to serve at the wedding. She was looking for someone to make the pies as they were busily caught up in wedding plans, but that only 4 were covered that that point. She asked me if I would consider using her recipe and baking all 10 pies! I left with her card, and excitedly emailed her as soon as we got back home.
I love how the Lord uses opportunities like this to grow me and stretch me. Sometimes I feel nervous about trying new things, when there?s always the possibility of letting someone down, or failing. This particular pie is made by baking the custard separately from the crust (in a water bath), and then flipping the pie part into the finished crust ? something I?ve never done before! I baked my test pie today, so Mrs. G and her friend could come by and test it out! It was a really neat experience, and I learned something new in the process!
I?m so grateful to the Lord for allowing me the opportunity to meet Mrs. G, and for making clear my path (when I could have been somewhere else!) and answering her prayers for someone to bake!
I?m thrilled to be baking pies, both for my cousin?s wedding next week, and for Mrs. G?s daughter?s wedding next month! .
Oh, and I also made some of this delicious stuff today!
And now for an exciting weekend of family camping!!! !!!
