Pinterest Learns To Speak Business

Today, Pinterest has announced new tools for businesses. One can say that Pinterest isn?t just about recipes and crafts anymore but, in all likelihood, it still is for a lot people. What we often overlooked are the businesses that crave that kind of forum to get their products wedged into the Pinterest boards of cooks and crafters everywhere. What better way to sell things! Oops, I meant add to the conversation (selling is so 1900?s)!

Of course, Pinterest is far from being just for those folks and as it expands its horizons the need to be more business oriented is apparent and one that should be addressed. Well how about this, today it is! From the Pinterest blog we get

Thousands of businesses have become part of our community, giving great ideas, content and inspiration to people on Pinterest. Whether it?s Anthropologie sharing awesome clothes, Whole Foods sharing tasty recipes, the Smithsonian sharing fascinating collections, or Amazon making products easy to pin, many of us have been inspired on Pinterest by businesses. We want to help more businesses provide great content on Pinterest and make it easy to pin from their websites. Today, we?re taking a first step toward that goal with some free tools and resources.

So what are some of those tools and resources?

New business terms

We now have two sets of terms?one for people and one for businesses. The business terms help guide businesses on how to use Pinterest. They also enable us to separate the provisions meant for businesses from those meant for regular people.

I truly doubt they meant it this way but doesn?t that read like business people are not regular people? Are we irregular? Interesting choice of words for sure.

Are you new to Pinterest as a business? This could be a good thing since conversions sometimes get messy. Today, rather than signing up as a ?regular? person, you can sign up as a business.

So what does that mean? I always like to give our readers those things coming directly from the horse?s mouth, so to speak (where?s my Mr. Ed picture for my board?!!)

Signing up on our business site allows you to specify your business name (instead of first name and last name) and go through an optimized new user flow to help you:

  • Verify your website. The verification badge helps people identify high-quality sources of content and more easily find the business whey want in search results.
  • Add new buttons and widgets. Integrate the Pin It button, Follow button, Profile widget, or Board widget to get more engagement from pinners and traffic back your site.
  • Access to upcoming features. Receive updates on future products and services that will provide more powerful ways of reaching and understanding your audience on Pinterest.

But it doesn?t stop there. There are new resources as well including case studies, best practices and then guides and documentation.

All in all, this is a pretty big step for Pinterest. No longer are people wondering exactly ?how? to best use it for business or whether what they are doing is right. Now, they have some guidance and some direction. Even people who crave their independence need a little guidance now and then, right?

Happy business pinning!
