Stevenson might fight Carl Froch next ? Boxing News
According to promoter Yvon Michel, promoter for super-middleweight Adonis Stevenson will fight for a title next. With Briton super-middleweight fighter Carl Froch defending his title against Yusaf Mack this weekend, every other aspiring champion is setting his eyes on the goal, hoping to get a chance against Froch or Mack, whoever stands as the champion.
According to Michel, Stevenson has already won the position of mandatory challenger by defeating Donovon George in his last fight.
?It will be against Froch or whoever else if the title is vacant,? said Michel. ?Hopefully it will be against Froch but we don?t control that. We know he has a rematch obligation with Lucian Bute. We know he will ask for an exemption but the IBF rules are clear that a mandatory will prevail over any rematch. I feel that even if he asks for an exemption, he?s not going to get it and Adonis will fight for the vacant title.
?We very much prefer to fight against Froch because he is the champion,? Michel added.
Froch won the title against Lucian Bute earlier this year in May in his hometown Nottingham. He has to go for a rematch against Bute as per the contract both fighters signed. Currently, he will defend his title against Mack. If successful, Froch will then move ahead with defending his title against Bute. Michel is looking forward to set his fighter against Froch, if the latter survives both the fighters, Mack and Bute.
Like every other fighter, Stevenson aspires to be a champion too. Moreover, he has all the skills to go head to head with the titans of the division, which is why his promoter is so keen of getting him a title shot. However, considering the fact that Froch is quite busy for the next six months or so, Stevenson hardly stands a chance to get a shot at him.
If lucky, Stevenson might get to fight against Froch before Bute does. Froch?s chances against Bute are higher, yet the fact that the Montreal based fighter has never lost a match in his hometown makes him dangerous for the Briton champion.
